childrens crusade

hi hi. did this a couple weeks ago. just a quick type treatment of a quote i really enjoy, from a book i enjoyed even more.  just a first thought. enjoy.

hahahah subway type, you lose.

o man. so if you've ever ridden the subway before, you will obviously have noticed the perfectly placed helvetica type that directs your every move.  well... someone was not paying attention when they printed this decal!  i don't know if the vector file was screwed up or not, but the letters are all wrong! the o's all look like they are on their side.  the D is a different line weight. the e and a are a different size... it's a mess! and i love it.  the end.

cat on a cool grass roof

So everyones green, blah blah blah.  While reading some of the beautiful books around the office, I found this picture in one about Berlin.  It's a grass roof...from 1926!  So all you cool cats out there turning green, just remember, it doesn't make you cool to have a grass roof(well it does because it keeps the house cool), but it doesn't make you hip!... it makes you German.
just kidding.  but i thought it was fascinating that we so focused on going green into the future, and looking for new and innovative ideas, when we should slow down and look at the past, i'm sure we'll find some pretty cool shit. like grass roofs

WOOOOO!!! - coffee spills and big thrills!

hmmmm so  my posts are becoming bi-monthly.  not a very strong blog.  but the cup of coffee that i spilled three times today was very strong. count them, three times.  twice in the subway... which led to no one sitting next to me...because no one wanted coffee spilt on them. lame.  nothing like a little coffee stain to start off a good day.
anyways.  super excited about a great little magazine i was just handed. seriously its so small 4"x7"  but its got a big name, WOOOOO <
with a strong list of interviewees,  the closing is Zach Galifianakis.
"okay. as a comedian do you find yourself sitting on the edge of your bed pausing between socks?"
"hmmm...this is a great question and i don't even understand it. but yes. i think i know what you mean and the answer is yes."
his quick fire interview was by no means the most profound, but i definitely laughed out loud while reading.
check out the rest of it and all the other goodies   wooooomag.com  10 bucks! buy it. do it.

two weeks. im back.

after being away from my desk for two weeks, there is much to be written about. enduring a photo shoot last week was one of the most eye opening experiences to date. in the last week of preparation of clothing and concept, an organized wave of chaos came over the office. so much to get ready before actually arriving on set. but once we arrived... i saw that creativity comes to fruition in all shapes and sizes on the set, and it was inspiring and intimidating to say the least. from the props stylist to the art director to the photographer, each person brought their own talents to produce an amazingly cohesive outcome. not to mention an entire crew that operated seamlessly, which allowed for each shot to be taken and executed perfectly.

i found it most interesting to watch the art director see her ideas come to life. being on the outside of her brain, everything seemed kind of jumbled. but once i saw all the polaroids of the chosen shots, it all made sense. such a cool moment to be able to understand the story that was to be read through the images.

below are a couple links to tickle your taste buds, retina, and other sensitive areas that may be excited while viewing. enjoy

http://www.etsy.com/
<< a delightful site where handmade items become accessible to the entire world wide web for sale. if you are looking for something unique to spice up an outfit, room, yard, or even your day, you can find it here. some of our props on set were purchased on this great site. you can even put your stuff up for sale here!

http://www.ellistonlutz.com/ << photographer of the shoot. did an amazing job, really engaged the models and made everyone extremely comfortable on set. watching him wait for the correct shot made me see that photogs don't just shoot every time the model moves. his composition of each shot was extremely varied and engaging for the eye. check out his portfolio. (also cool to note that he went to school for graphic design and ended up as a photographer...

i've decided to post when appropriate. daily seems forced.

nitty griddy

today is all about the grid, but first...i've decided to put up a daily color palette, and to reflect the awesome spring weather that has blessed my first week of commuting, the first one is rightfully titled rainy day.

really my first day of exposure to the grid. after checking out Khoi Vinh (design director of nytimes.com, that has a noticeably inviting homepage for the amount of info that is on the site) & Mark Boultons's article titled "Grids are Good", I have a lot more respect for what is thrown together on the web.

12 seems to be the magic number- easily divided into odds and evens. so it will be that i will learn to live by the grid so i can master it enough to destroy the grid.

check out Khoi Vinh's site www.subtraction.com for more info on the o-so-intimidating design grid.
